![]() I like them hands down best on a certain very good hybrid tube amp with a certain tube. ![]() I have a couple HD58Xs (one stock and the other modded) and they do benefit from better DAC/amp setup than just from my phone. More enthusiast focused smartphones or DAPs would close the gap much more. If they are different brands then an amp might help.Ī basic, competently designed DAC and a very good headphone amp will noticeably improve the HD58X sound quality compared to a basic smartphone when playing high quality/ production value music. If it is an iPhone or LG smartphone, (both have low OI and can output upto 1V) you are already set that you don't worry about anything. On the other hand, amps do matter and its output impedance has an impact on sound quality. Not some BS from head-fi or other audiophile retards.ĭACs have been transparent for the last 15 years(?) that it is irrelevant to any discussion any more. There are published research for each of this point. Also, at 320kbps, all codecs are comparable to each other. There might be a few program material where 192kbps is not enough, but at 320kbps it is extremely hard to distinguish compressed from original. There has been decades of research into audio compression and we came to the conclusion that 192kbps MP3 is already transparent to most users for most program material. ![]() Your headphone(HD 58x) already has extremely low distortion( < 0.2% weighted THD) that the drivers are as good as it gets. If you managed to read through all this and offered some advice, thanks for your help. Audio source: Where do y'all get good audio from? Do I have to buy higher quality audio files from artists or is there a free option? Also, where do DAPs lie in all of this? How do I find the right amp?ĭACs: Since my audio source is just my phone, do I really need a dac? Will Spotify with a dac connected to my computer sound better than just Spotify on my phone?Īlso if I decide I need an amp and a dac should I buy them separately or buy one of those dual units?ģ. Is this true? I don't know if I necessarily want my headphones to sound like a different pair of headphones with an amp. ![]() I have heard that an amp can "change the tonality" of a headphone. As far as I have seen, everyone seems to think buying an amp for headphones like these will definitely improve sound quality. I have some questions about all of these things.Īmps: My HD 58x headphones have an impedance of 150 ohms and spl of 104 db at 1V. So, I need help figuring out how to do better than this.Īs far as I know, besides headphones, things that can help sound quality are having a good amp, dac, and audio source. Currently, the main way I listen to music with them is through my phone using Spotify's 320kbps streaming option. I finally settled on a good pair of headphones I like (HD 58x Jubilee), however, I am not convinced I am using them to their full potential right now. ![]()
